Jessica Firger is a health journalist with more than a decade of experience. She was a senior health writer at Newsweek, as well as a staff health writer and editor at CBS News, CNN and Everyday Health. More broadly, her writing has been featured in numerous national media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, newyorker.com, New York Times, Elemental, TIME, Marie Claire, Elle, Al Jazeera America and Salon, among others. She has appeared as an expert on MSNBC, BBC News, Fox & Friends, NPR, as well as "The Dr. Oz Show."
Jessica has extensive experience reporting on metro, crime and breaking news, and she was the lead reporter on Occupy Wall Street for the Wall Street Journal. She received a Silurian Merit Award in 2012 for her contribution to the paper's coverage of the protests.
She holds an M.A. in health and medical reporting from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. Prior to working as a journalist, Jessica spent seven years in the book publishing industry, as both an editor and publicist. She's a native New Yorker. Jessica has also worked as a senior editor at Union Square & Co., where she acquired and edited books in the categories of health and wellness, personal development and memoir.
